It is a place where modernity merges with traditions creating quite a blend that is so appealing to many tourists.

Some of the activities that you may engage in while in the city include excursions in various places. El Escorial is a monastery located within the city. It covers an area of over fifty kilometers. The construction of this monastery took some 21 years before completion by some very famous architects from Spain. The measures are great and the style used is austere. The main chapels, throne hall, tombs of the kings as well as the Capilla mayor are attractive parts of this great monastery.

El Valle de los Caidos is yet another fabulous place for excursions. It is a monument in its own respect and something of a wonder to behold. It was built in commemoration of the fallen Spaniards in the civil war of 1940. It has a very tall cross lying on solid rock hollowed so as to include a church. It is at close proximity with El Escorial.

Aranjuez is a town that is attractive as it is very beautiful. The palace located here called Palacio Real is one of the greatest reasons why people come here. It dates back to the 17th century. The throne and porcelain rooms are the major highlights here. There are many beautiful gardens as well as works of porcelain and clocks that also form part of the attraction.

Alcala de Henares is away from Madrid at some 30 km distance. During the renaissance era, the area was a true bloom. There is a university here that was founded back in 1498 by a cardinal called Cineros. It is an area that you should not miss out on. There are walls that date back to the 15th century that are great attractions too. Other attractions include a convent called Bernadas as well as Casa de Cervantes.

Chinchon is another place of interest. This is a village of a medieval era. The main square is totally beautiful. Plaza Mayor is another attraction that bears arcades that are attractive. The square is where major festivities are hosted in the region of Madrid. Chinchon is also made more popular by the gastronomy enjoyed here. Madrid is a destination that is worth consideration.
