The Very Best Art Museums In Spain

In western art, Spain has significant standing. The art works are influenced by Italian and French artists although the Spanish works are all very unique in their own right. The history of Spain as well as the Muslim influence that it holds greatly contributes to the works of art that can be still seen today in the country.

Other inspirations to the Spanish works of art are counter-reformation climates, hardships as the empire declined among many other reasons. Notable artists have since risen. They include Goya Francisco, el Greco, as well as Diego Velazquez. During the recent centuries, Spain has held quite a unique position in the art arena with some of the artists giving a modernist as well as surrealist approach. The most popular of these are Salvador Dali as well as the famous Pablo Picasso.

For the most popular and numerous art works, visit the two major cities, i.e. Barcelona and the country’s capital Madrid. Here your art needs will be satisfied to a great extent. The museum triangle in Madrid hosts the Museo Del Prado which is actually the very largest in all of Spain. Goya, Velazquez and el Greco works are the most popular within the museum. There are also artworks from German, Dutch, Italian and Flemish masters found here thus adding to available variety.  The Reina Sofia has the very best of Picasso works and some of Dali’s works. Other surrealist, modernist and abstract painter’s works are found here.

Barcelona has connections of the contemporary art as well as modern works and architecture. The Picasso museum is located here and has the artist’s works from the earliest periods of his career. The works of the famous architect Gaudi Antoni are also found here. It is always a delight to sample these great works. Visit the town called Figueres and sample the Salvador Dali museum. The museum itself is his design.

When you move away from Barcelona and Madrid, the museums become less important and also tend to dwindle in size. There are however those that are really worth your time such as the works of el Greco located in Toledo. This is only a day’s trip from Madrid. The works of el Greco such as the disrobing of Christ is found in the cathedral. However, more of his artworks can be found in smaller art museums located around the town. Bilbao has the popular Guggenheim museum which is frank Gerry very own design. It is also quite easy to locate as it is found on the city map.
